Places I have Worked: After graduating in 1973 from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, I worked in a sheltered workshop for five years, mental health, drug and alcohol treatment centers for 22 years and finally landed at Nutrition and Health Associates (NHA) where I currently work. NHA provides dietary counseling and food coupons to families just starting out. We cover Rock and Green Counties and serve 3400 pregnant women, infants and children each month.

(By the way, Denny E., I get to Monroe a couple of times each month and where did you say that roller rink is?)

Places I have Traveled: While my husband was in the military, I traveled to Okinawa and Germany. When the children were young, we traveled to Washington D.C.,Florida and Texas.

About My Family:Cathy Kersztyn Dean I met my husband, Jeff, on a blind date while at school in Madison. He was a Green Beret on leave from Vietnam. He ended up spending three tours there. When he got back to the United States, he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia where we finally got together. We married in December, 1972, and the next week Jeff received orders for Okinawa. So, I stayed in the United States and finished my Masters degree and then flew to Okinawa!

We have two children: Christopher is 20 and will start his third year at West Point. Because he will graduate in the 200th West Point class, the academy staff want his class to be the best. So, instead of marching 10 miles back to post with full gear, he got to march 13 miles! This summer, Chris just finished jumping out of airplanes at Fort Benning the exact same way Jeff did when he went to airborne school after graduating from Officer Candidate School in the '60s. So they had alot of experiences to share. Chris will graduate with a Bachelors degree in Nuclear Engineering.

Casey is 19 and will be a sophomore at University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in international business. She is fluent in French and has studied Italian. Remember when one of our Lourdes school trips was to Chicago, well Casey's school trip as a junior in high school was to Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti. My goodness times have changed! The following year the trip offered was to Africa and Jeff and I said NO.

My husband, Jeff, retired from the military as a Colonel in 1995. After only two months of enjoying him at home, he was "head hunted" by a financial planning firm in Elkhorn and is enjoying his second career.

Jeff and I live in Janesville, WI. Both Chris and Casey are in and out as their vacation/school schedules permit. Our friends tell Jeff and I that we are "empty nesters" but the truth is we have more contact with our children than ever before. It seems they are experiencing the complexites of adulthood such as health insurance, bills, writing resumes, using credit cards, balancing checking accounts etc.

Jeff and I travel to Oshkosh often since my father, brother Dave, sister Mary still live there with their families. Mary has a daughter Emily and Mr. Behring is her Godfather! Small world isn't it. And, Don Pfeiffer, until I read your biography, I didn't realize that Kevin Andrasko was my mother doctor and is currently my fathers physician.

The end of July I will once again volunteer at the Oshkosh AirVenture flyin. I work in the ultralight/helicopter building checking in pilots and their aircraft. It's a darn rough job but someone has to do it. If you go to the flyin, stop by, I will be at the Ultralight barn from the last Tuesday of July until that next Friday morning. The sight of the military aircraft coming in for static display are unbelievable. And, the Concorde and the Australian Quantas airliner will be back.

Future Plans: I don't really know. I am working at a job that I love. I sometimes think that life can't get any better than: when I can smell freshly mowed grass or lilacs blooming in the spring,or when I am swinging on our deck feeling a summer breeze and watching neighborhood kids playing, or the first bite of a Dairy Queen blizzard, or geese flying overhead in the fall. Jeff and I are enjoying life day by day.

Are you attending the 50th BD Bash? If schedules permit.

The person I most want to see at the 50th Birthday Bash is: Everybody.

Response to Westend Pizza Get Together: Thanks to you and Terri for inviting me to the get together over Christmas holidays. As it turns out, my family will only be in Oshkosh for a few hours on the 25th of December.

Blessed and happy holidays to you Terri and your families.

Cathy Dean
